Port Orleans Riverside

At A Glance Southern-style mansions and idyllic bayou dwellings re-create life in the Deep South days of riverboats and Mark Twain. Pool with water slides, food court, full service restaurant, limited room service, bar, laundry facilities, well stocked shop, bus and river transport to Downtown Disney available.

[Port Orleans Riverside Property Map]

Port Orleans Riverside (Originally the Dixie Landings Resort) is themed as a riverboat landing from the old pre-civil war South. The rooms of the hotel are made up to be like an ante-bellum mansion, in the "Magnolia Bend" area or the more proletariat homes of "Alligator Bayou".

The restaurant and entertainment area of the hotel is themed to be the riverboat landing itself. In fact, when you check in to the hotel, you are made to feel like you are booking passage on a riverboat heading south down the mighty river. This is a very large resort, only slightly smaller than Caribbean Beach, but since it's broken up into the two areas, it doesn't seem so overwhelming as it's slightly older sibling.

Rooms

There are 2,048 rooms at the Port Orleans Riverside Resort, split between the main mansion area, and the Bayou guestrooms.

All of the rooms are of a similar size, and each features at least two double beds, with some king sized beds also being available. In addition, 963 of the Bayou rooms have trundle beds, although an additional nightly charge is made for its use.

Rooms at Riverside are a little smaller than rooms at the more expensive hotels in Walt Disney World, but should be relatively comfortable for a family of four.

Food and Drink

Riverside has a food court and a full-service restaurant. "BoatWright's Dining Hall" has a fairly extensive menu and provides top-notch service. The resort also has a couple of lounges.

Activities and Recreation

While not as extensive as River Country, "Old Man Island", located in the middle of the resort, is a pool area themed as an old watering hold in the deep south. It's a fun place to swim, and it's convenient to the guests at the resort. There are several other pools scattered about. Fishing, boating (on the Sassagoula River), an arcade, and other activities are available. Riverside also has it's general store to purchase sundries and souvenirs.
