What's the Best Time of Year to Visit WDW ?

[ Disney Vacation Planner ]

At A Glance

Quite simply there is no single best time of year to visit the Walt Disney World Resort! The resort offers so many attractions and events that no matter what time of year you choose to visit, there will always be something new to see.

The weather in Florida varies quite a lot, although it's rarely cold. A Floridian winter is often as warm as a good British summer, whilst the summers are generally hot and very humid.

Note: Walt Disney World gets very crowded over christmas and the new year. As a result Disney often limit the number of people in the parks by closing the gates to visitors early, and its not uncommon for the gates to have closed to everyone except those staying on-property by lunch, so if you plan to go to WDW over the christmas break, make sure you plan to enter your selected theme parks nice and early to avoid any disapointment.

January
Events Annual Walt Disney World Marathon
The Indy 200 at Walt Disney World
Temperature Generally cool, typically high 60s, or possibly low 70s.
Crowds Very busy at start of month, but low after first week.

February
Events

Mardis Gras at Pleasure Island
African-American Music Experience at EPCOT (Feb - Mar)
St Valentines Day
Presidents Day

Temperature Low to mid 70s
Crowds Crowds start to pick up, with the parks being particularly busy over Valentines day and after Presidents day.

March
Events Country Music Month at EPCOT (Mar - Apr)
St. Patrick's Day at Pleasure Island
Easter (usually)
Temperature Generally mid to upper 70s.
Crowds All parks tend to be quite busy due to the Spring Break, with some of the year's biggest crowds over the Easter weekend.

April
Events International Flower & Garden Festival at EPCOT (Apr - Jun)
EPCOT "POPS" Concert Series (Apr - Jun)
Temperature High 70s to low 80s.
Crowds Crowds drop off after the Easter peak, which usually falls in March, but the parks still remain relatively crowded with long lines.

May
Events

Cinco de Mayo at Pleasure Island
Mother's Day
Memorial Day

Temperature Mid to upper 80s
Crowds Crowds continue falling from their earlier peak during March/April, but then pick up again sharply towards the end of May for the Memorial Day weekend.

June
Events Friday the 13th at Disney-MGM Studios
Fathers Day
Temperature High 80s to Low 90s.
Crowds

Following the crowded Memorial Day weekend crowds continue to grow as the high season and July 4th approaches.

July
Events Independence Day!
Blast Off to the 4th at Pleasure Island
EPCOT Space Week
Temperature One of the two hottest months of the year with temperatures generally in the low to mid 90s.
Crowds

Horrendous crowds at the start of the month for Independence day, falling a little later in the month, but not by much due to the school summer vacations.

July is also the peak time for school tours from the South of America, so expect to see a number of large parties of Peruvians, Chilleans etc, all being shephearded around the park by tour guides waving flags.

August
Events Latin Rhythm Month at EPCOT (Aug - Sep)
Labor Day.
Temperature One of the two hottest months of the year with temperatures generally in the low to mid 90s.
Crowds Very busy due to the summer vacations, and particularly over the Labor Day weekend towards the end of August.

September
Events

Disneyana Convention at Disney's Contemporary Resort
EPCOT Jazz Series

Temperature Temperatures start to drop off a little, but still in the lower 90s to upper 80s.
Crowds Crowds drop off quickly after Labor Day with September often having some of the years lowest crowds.

October
Events Halloween (Mickeys Not so Scary Halloween Party)
Temperature Mid to low 80s.
Crowds Relatively quiet, but with some crowding during Halloween week.

November
Events Festival of the Masters at Disney Village Marketplace
Spectacle of Lights at Disney-MGM Studios
Magical Holidays
Thanksgiving
Temperature Mid to lower 70s
Crowds Crowds pick up a little during early November, but rise rapidly towards the end of the month, becoming very busy over the Thanksgiving weekend.
NOTE Traditionally the build-up to christmas starts with the end of Thanksgiving after which the christmas decorations start to appear. This is often regarded as one of the best time to visit Walt Disney World, with crowd volumes at the lowest despite the christmas decorations and festive atmosphere.

December
Events New Year's Eve at Pleasure Island
Magical Holidays at all resorts and parks.
Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party
Temperature Low 70s to upper 60s.
Crowds

Very low for the first three weeks of the month, rising rapidly during the fourth week, to the park's absolute maximum over the Christmas and New Years weeks.

Christmas itself, through to just after the new year is the busiest time of year for the Disney theme parks, which become a heaving mass of tourists all looking for a little magic at Christmas.

NOTE December is a magical time at Disney, and is also low-season, so for the first three weeks of the month rooms are relatively plentiful, and at their cheapest. Park attendance rises sharply in the last week and a half before christmas, with the last week in December and the first week in January being the resort's busiest weeks of the year.

Spring Break

The Spring Break season at Walt Disney World is a long season, which usually starts around Mardi Gras/Presidents day (generally around the 2nd or 3rd week of February) and continues until the Saturday after Easter.

The two weeks surrounding Easter are the busiest times at Walt Disney World during the spring. The closer you are to Easter, the busier the crowds until after Easter... Crowding drops significantly following the Saturday after Easter.
