At A Glance

The following are real-life examples of problems that people have encountered whilst leaving the UK, whilst on holiday in the Orlando area, and whilst returning to the UK from Florida.

These aren't meant to put anyone off going, but should serve as a reminder of things that you need to watch out for.

Baggage Incident at Gatwick

The following incident happened while collecting baggage at Gatwick Airport in the UK following a Florida vacation:

"You mentioned about baggage collection both in Orlando and the UK, well when we got back to the UK my husband went to collect the luggage and left me on my own with all the hand luggage. There was an American guy stood very close behind me and when I moved he moved too, so I knew there was something about him."

"Anyway I spotted one of our suitcases and went to take if off the carousel and in that couple of seconds the American had grabbed my trolley with all my hand luggage on and started walking off with it as quickly as possible. Luckily he didn't get very far and I managed to get it back and of course he just pleaded ignorance and said that he thought it was his."

"It was so obvious he had singled me out, a lone female with a trolley full of luggage. This American guy was standing so close behind me that it looked like he was with me and he was also talking so it looked like he was talking to me."

"The people around me said that they thought he was with me. He'd obviously done it before. I just hope that he's never got away with it?!"

Mercado Mall incident

The following incident happened at the Mercado shopping mall, and provides a good example of why you should allways be on your guard or at least aware of your surroundings, no matter where you are!

"Talking of mugging, I was nearly mugged over there too! I must look like a victim?! Actually I'm not, I do karate. Maybe you should warn ladies of this one too."

"I do NOT advise any women to put handbags on the hooks in the ladies toilets, (or on the floor for that matter), as anyone can lean over and take it, and that is what happened to me, luckily again I got it back."

"It was in the Mercado shopping centre on International Drive and all ladies cubicles over in America have a large gap at the top and bottom of the cubicle door, (a bit weird if you're tall), so it's possible to reach over and snatch bags from hooks and do a runner! But apart from that our holiday went very smoothly!! :-)"
