Less than 10 miles away from their flagship restaurant
in Orlando (at Downtown Disney), the Rainforest Cafe at Animal
Kingdom services both guests of Disney's Animal Kingdom park and
outside patrons as well.
The Cafe sits just outside the main entrance to the
Animal Kingdom, although has two entrances. One is accessible
from outside the park, whilst the second can only be reached from
within the Animal Kingdom by leaving the park through a set of
turnstiles that only lead into the Cafe. If you plan to return
into the Animal Kingdom you'll need to have your hand stamped
on exit in to the Cafe, and also will need to retain any park
admission media (tickets).
The outside of the restaurant is designed to be a
40-foot waterfall, though this can only be seen from the entrance
outside the Animal Kingdom park, with the inside featuring signature
Rainforest items such as the 38-foot mushroom bar, Tracy Tree,
Atlas man and braying, growling and roaring animatronic animals.
The entrance to the Cafe from the Animal Kingdom
side features a kind of Animal Playground, with a large elephant
playfully shooting a jet of water over the heads of passing guests
and into a pool. There's usually five or six Macaw and associated
Amazon birds in the area as well, along with a keeper to explain
about the birds, and the threat posed to their survival posed
by removing them from the wild (the birds by the Cafe have all
been bred in captivity).
Inside the cafe has a similar layout to the Downtown
Disney variant, though the shopping area seems quite a lot larger.
Both feature the same merchandise ranges, focusing on Rainforest
Cafe branded clothing, along with assorted toys, games and souvenirs
all with a rainforest theme.
