The Haunted Mansion

[Disney Vacation Planner]

At A Glance Good old fashioned ghost house attraction brought right up to date - don't miss it!

Another of the very popular attractions at The Magic Kingdom, the Haunted Mansion is a very impressive variation of the old style ghost rides, but designed with the Imagineer's eye for detail.

The attraction takes 8 minutes to pass through from start to finish, and it's more of a fun experience than a scary one. In fact anyone going into the Haunted Mansion expecting to be frightened is in for a disappointment, because the effects within the Haunted Mansion are mostly achieved through Holography, and some good old fashioned Smoke and Mirrors, with the atmosphere being kept most definitely light hearted.

The attractions experience starts before you ever enter the mansion itself, with the grounds, and the various humourous gravestones that line the queueing area. Once into the attraction, the first stop is the pre-show area, of the portrait hall, where you'll be convinced that the size of the room changes after you enter.

The run through the rest of the attraction takes place in a "Doom Buggy", complete with it's own sound system. (Each Doom Buggy has to have it's own speaker set to allow the ride sound effects to be synchronised with your position within the attraction).

The ride ends with a couple of ghosts joining you in the "Doom Buggy" as you leave the ride.

Incidentally, the biggest maintenance job in the Haunted Mansion, is maintaining the old dusty look of everything, which is achieved by regularly adding more fresh dust to the attraction, using dust that is specially brought in for the purpose.
