"Art you can play" is the slogan of Guitar Gallery, the retail
guitar shop located at Downtown Disney West Side, opposite to
Virgin Mega Store.
The store features more than 150 custom, collector, rare and
unique guitars from world-wide manufacturers. Even if you're not
a musician, a peek inside this store is worth the effort. You'll
see hand-decorated guitars, such as a surrealistic "Wonderland"
Washburn guitar created by Sammy Hagar and his son. An Ibanez
model features a hand-carved Egyptian scene on its wooden face.
Guitars are suspended from hand-brushed aluminum walls and encased
in rotating, tubular display cases. Oversized guitar picks singed
by famous guitar players make up the store's "Rock 'n Roll Alley"
An investment-grade specialty shop, Guitar Gallery offers something
for beginners to experts and collectors. Guitar prices range from
$199 for a beginner's electric guitar to $25,000 for a Jimmie
Rodger Limited edition, No. 24 of 100 (made with Brazilian rosewood,
gold, fossilized ivory and mother of pearl). Guitar brands sold
here include Ovation (electric, acoustic), Washburn (electric,
acoustic, banjos), Martin (acoustic, mandolins), Guild (electric,
acoustic), Gibson (electric, acoustic, mandolins), Ibanez (electric,
acoustic) and Fender (electric).
The store also sells guitar accessories, including slides, tuners,
guitar straps, books, educational videos and introductory learner
packages. Novelty items include T-shirts, key chains and candles.
If you're interested in purchasing a one of the shop's guitars
-- or mandolins or banjos -- there's a small jam room in the rear
of the store for you to test it out first. When you're ready to
pay, take note of the guitar-shaped check-out counter with inlaid
mother of pearl.
Store owner George Hines is a Philadelphia native who owns George's
Music Inc., a national chain of musical instrument stores. This
is his first Guitar Gallery.
