Great Movie Ride

The Great Movie Ride is a 22 minute attraction, that takes place in a full scale reproduction of Mann's Chinese Theater.

One of the more popular attractions, the Great Movie Ride has a very large queueing area, which starts outside, and continues through a relatively large lobby area inside the building itself. It's usually a constantly moving queue though, so as with some of the other attractions at the MGM Studios, a long queue doesn't necessarily mean a lengthy wait, although from the entrance to the theatre to loading into the ride vehicles the wait is probably around 25-minutes in duration.

During the attraction guests load into a reasonably large and slow moving vehicle after which they're slowly taken around the inside of the building on a winding track, past dioramas depcting some of the classing film sequences of the more well known Hollywood movies.

It starts with a replay of the "By a Waterfall" scene from Busby Berkley's Footlight Parade, after which Gene Kelly's classic performance from Singin' in the Rain complete with rain (though the ride vehicle remains dry), followed by a classic sequence from Mary Poppins.

Next in line is one of two scenes, dependng on which route the ride vehicle follows, else a classic sequence from Public Enemy complete with James Cagney. and a live-action sequence to add a little unexpected twist to the ride, or if the alternate route is taken through a western town, the scene includes John Wayne on horseback, keeping an eye on some bank robbers in the process of dynamiting a safe.

The next (classic) scene from "Alien", in a relatively dark setting may be upsetting for young and/or small children, though it's not half as scary as Alien Encounter.

The ride concludes with the farewell scene from Casablanca, followed by a final classic scene from The Wizard of Oz.

Overall it's not a particularly thrilling ride, but it is one of the classic Disney Studios attractions, and is worth seeing.
