The Magic of Disney Animation Tour

[Disney Vacation Planner]

At A Glance Guided walking tour providing a behind the scenes look at Disney animation studios.

The recently updated Magic of Disney Animation Tour provides a behind the scenes look at how the classic animated movies are produced, right through from the initial ideas, through storyboarding, animation, how the sounds and voices are added, and how the whole process is completed to produce the movies that are released at the theatres and cinemas.

The tour lasts for around 40-minutes in total, and runs continuously, so there's no need to book in advance. If a tour is in progress a chalkboard outside the main lobby provides information about when the next tour is due to commence.

Before the tour starts, you get to browse the building's lobby area, where display cabinets exhibit (copies of) some of the many Oscars won by the Disney animators over the years, along side cels from some of the classic Disney animated films.

The tour itself begins with a short film explaining the basics of the animation process, after which guests get to meet one of the Disney animators who will happily answer any questions about the process. Next guests pass through the main animation studio, where depending upon the season, animators may well be working on the next Disney animated film scheduled for release, possibly including "Kingdom In The Sun", "Atlantis", "Treasure Planet", "Leilo and Stitch" or "Sweating Bullets".

All the way through the tour a guide explains in detail what is happening, and video monitors scattered at various locations throughout the tour provide more detailed information about the area they're in. Finally the tour ends back in the Animation Gallery, where many original Disney animated cels along with other collectible objects are for sale (though don't expect them to be cheap!).
