Disneyland
Paris have finally caught up with the Walt Disney World idea of
the "Walk Around the World" in which guests pay to have
their name etched into a hexagonal brick, which is then laid in
a pavement just outside the main entrance to the theme park as
a permanent record of their visit.
Compare to the Walt Disney World version, Disneyland
Paris' Promenade Disney represents reasonably good value
for money, because the times used not only appear to be harder
wearing that the Walt Disney World versions, but the name is also
physically etched to around 4 or 5 milimetres deep into the tile,
and then ink-filled, whereas the Walt Disney World versions are
only lightly etched into the tiles.
Disneyland Paris have only recently started the Promenade,
and as of August 1999 the first area completed was immediately
outside the front of the main Disneyland Hotel, in the paving
around the Garden area.
Tiles cost around 75 Euros (500 French Francs), or
around £50 GBP for a hard terracotta style glazed hexagonal
tile that is approximately 6-8 inches across the face. They can
be ordered from the small handcart style booth that is usually
located outside the main entrance to the park towards the left
of the Disneyland Paris hotel as you face the main park entrance.
